Repairing a toshiba laptop?

My toshiba laptop screen flickered for five days or so and then went black. It has stayed like this for about a week. Any quick fix or an idea on what to do?
Good answers so far. However, I want to know if there is something I can do before I spend money on new parts? I’m realistic and know that I probably will have to get new parts, but anything I can do to at least see if I can resolve the issue without spending money?

Sounds like either a bad inverter board, or the screen is done. Bad news is that the screens run about $100 (plus installation)…good news is that inverters are cheap ($15, plus installation).
