Is there a simple Radio Shack splitter I can buy so I can use a desktop and laptop computer simultaneously?
I have a cable connection into my home. My TV is connected, and I get internet access also. I have both a desktop computer and a laptop computer, but I have to connect either one or the other. Is there a simple Radio Shack splitter I can buy so as to be able to connect both computers to my cable connection (in different rooms). I would like for two people to be able to use my two computers at the same time. I’ve heard about networking two computers, but I think both computers have to be “on” for that to work. Is there a simple T or Y splitter that could be used so that either computer could be used whether or not the other was off or on?
You need a router… either wired or wireless. A router is how you share an internet connection among multiple computers whether the others are on or off. You can also transfer files between the computers on the network.
Might as well go with wireless since you have a laptop.
You just plug your cable modem into the router. Your desktop could plug into one of the router’s wired connectors. You’d need a wireless adapter for your laptap if it didn’t come with one built-in and you’d be set. Your laptop would be free from wires!!!
